Rear end grinding
New to the forms and looking for guidance regarding a grinding sound from the rear end of my 2001 ap1 s2k. I had the differential replaced a couple days ago because of a bad grinding noise. After the work had been completed the noise is still present. The old differential was in bad condition so it wasn't replaced in vain, however it didn't solve the issue. The shop that did the work said that the axles were in fine shape, though i'm not sure if this is accurate. I had originally thought it was the bearings but the sound is most previlant when at low speeds without load on the driveline. I had the rear bearings replaced several years ago, however they car has been sitting for several years and only driven on rare occasions, I am in the process of bring it back to life, with the engine having a full service, differential replaced, tct upgraded and replaced. The car has an aftermarket Exedy clutch with ACT flywheel which was installed about 30k ago. Car has 105k miles on it. I have link to two videos of the issue. One just audio with the car turned off and rolling at low speeds/coming to a stop. The other from the exterior of the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to spend unnecessary money on items that won't solve this issue.
best way to start is to jackup the rear with both off the ground. spin by hand and that should be easy to locate. if you cant get the sound, try jacking under the bottom ball joint to get the wheel to its usual ride height.
if still no noise, i'd suspect a wheel bearing as thats the only spot you're not loading at that point.

What's that whiney engine noise? Since you have mentioned the tct replacement, you might have your timing chain waaay too tight. Check out this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...t-tct-1178649/
Sounds like a rear hub bearing has gone bad caused by the axel nut not being torqued down properly. If they followed the original AP1 torque spec it is not enough. Honda released an update that the nut needs to be torqued to 250Ft lbs. I ran into this issue after replacing my diff and following the original Honda manual torque specifications.
