Default Rebuild or shortblock?

I have 75,000 miles on my 2004 AP2. I have been autocrossing it for the past eight years. The engine light recently came on and Honda determined that I have oil in my emission hoses. I requested a compression test and leak-down test on all four cylinders. The results: 190psi in cylinders 1 and 4, and 165psi in cylinders 2 and 3. Honda quoted me $8,000 for a new shortblock and $4,500 for a rebuild.
All opinions welcome.

Rule #1: don't go to a Honda dealer, you will get raped. What's your location? Look for reliable s2000 shops near you

What code was your ECU throwing? Is this car your daily driver? Do you have a spare car to drive? If not, I would ride it out as long as you can, and in the meantime save up for a longblock. Pulling motors in and out on these car as fairly easy. I was going to suggest finding a JDM f20 but you have a AP2. I would not go to Honda for the work tho.

I can appreciate that a long block would be the best long-term solution. But a local source told me that Honda no longer has long blocks. But I'll check it out, thanks.
