Default rebuilt my head

so i fineally rebuilt my head.. after hearing valve noise for the longest time....
ALL OF MY INTAKE RETAINERS WERE CRACKED.. 2 were almost cracked in half...
good stuff huh...
so all said and done... spoon head gasket... polished and removed casting on exhaust side of head (did it my self) re surfaced the head.... BC valves... BC tit retainers... BC dual valve springs...

did a compression check after it all.. 245 compared to stock 220... its fast...i can def feel the difference.. tho ive been driving around be4 with 170 in 2 of my cylinders.. so any thing will feel fast compared to that

only thing now is that.. my valve train is rly noisey.. might be normal though... still gotta adjust my valve lash tho.. so that might quiet it up some...

point of this... if u hear valve noise... try replaceing ur retainers... i highly recommend it...
our retainers are high fail parts... pictures are on my mysapce

it may be implied, but have you ever over-revved, or let someone drive your car while you were not in it?

AP1's are notorious for having cracked retainers. Look up some of Billmans posts on the ones he has fixed. Its a pretty nasty issue that sometimes doesn't show itself until its to late.

How can you rebuild the head and not adjust the valves?

If you changed valves and had your valve seats cut chances are the valve clearances would have changed. Removing material from the seat tends to close up the valve clearances as the valves are seated further into the head.

Assembling without checking the clearances runs the risk that a valve may have zero clearance. This can result in a burnt valve and/or seat. If, on the other hand the clearance is really big then that valve will be dropped on the seat by the higher speed part of the cam profile which can break the valve stem.

Best to adjust your clearances sooner rather than later.

umm. I would think it would be a givin that if the head was removed, for any reason, the valves would be checked and adjusted before the head was even droped into place. Please tell me you did.
