I have a 03 s2k. It was run with low oil and a knocking sound came from the engine after that. I took it to the shop. They told me a piston was damage on cilynder 1 and eventually all would have to be replace. He gave me two options. Rebuild engine or get a new engine. At this point i dont know what to do. I havent heard of anyone rebuilding the s2k engine and if a shop can actually do it.

Did the shop quote you any prices on the engine rebuild vs. engine replacement?

These engines have some special liners and are built with a high degree of precision. Unless the shop is experienced in rebuilding S2000 engines I'd have it shipped to someone that can rebuild it or replace it with a used shortblock.

Are you looking to rebuild to stock specs? or do you have plans to boost or go modified NA (e.g. stroke)?

There are a plethora of shops that can rebuild our motors depending on your goals and application.

Note, you can buy a short-block from Honda for about $3200. I think that's a pretty darn good bargain considering its fully assembled and comes with everything (less waterpump). It'll last you another 100k+ worry free miles.

The shop where i took the car is only gonna take engine out and put it back in when is ready. They're gonna send it different place where they're in charge of rebuilding engines. http://osbornemachineinc.com That is the place where i think im gonna send it. What do you guys think? And no after getting the car im not planning to do any turbo or anything else just basic things. Its a daily driver.

The prices they gave me is $2,800 for the rebuild including installation and everything or buy a used engine with around 70 k miles would be $4k or more.

6800 for a used engine? thats a bit high. its weird that theyre sending the engine to different places to be rebuilt. id look for a dedicated place that does everything in house.

Its only $4000 for a used engine but they are high on mileage.
If i get the engine rebuild instead of buying another one would be $2800. I just dont know if anyone had that engine rebuild since they're specials. I try to find a place where they do everything but i didn't.
