Good write up. I recently did this for my short shifter and one of the white clips broke but o well. As for greasing i dumped alot of it in the hole qnd once i put the shifter in i just move. It around to make sure the grease got all Around

That's pretty much what I did, and $10 seems good - I think thats about what I paid - I was expecting a bigger container though!
Two of my ring clips snapped, but I snapped the other two back in. I assume having it seated properly helps with keeping noise down, since the opening itself is still sealed. You could buy a new ring if you break yours, I'd guess they are inexpensive.

For anyone who has done this and had some notchy shifting, how much has this helped with notchiness? I'm pretty notchy from 1st to 2nd and thinking about doing this.

I did this DIY and changed my trans fluid with amsoil mtf 5w30, bleed clutch fluid, adjusted clutch pedal to disengage higher in the stroke and my gear shifts have improved signifcantly, I dont grind 1 & 2nd gear as much now
