Default reinstalling knock sensor

hi i have a MY00 and i bought it about 8 months ago. and about 2 monts ago i had a starter problem. so upon taking out the starter instead of breaking my knock sensor i realized that it was broken and it looked like it had been broken for a looooong time. it was really brittle and yellow. anyways i fatally came around to getting a new one from the dealership and I'm reinstalling tomorrow. my question is if theres anything i should do before reinstalling it due to the fact that i probably have mild knock in the engine? will it take the knock away gradually simply after installing and clearing the CEL? also I've noticed that even though i havent had a knock sensor for quite some time i don't hear any sounds associated with engine knock. maybe a slight marble sound upon cold starts. it would be great to have some info on this i don't want my engine to get destroyed. any advice is appreciated thank you.

Install it, clear the code, confirm you have no others and go.

Wow man I can't believe you went so long before replacing the knock senser. It's a pretty important part, One bad tank of gas and bad things could happen.

No reason to clear the code. The code will go away when the pcm has seen the problem is no longer there. When you clear the codes, you also delete freeze frame data (useful if there IS another problem), and turn off the non-continuous monitors (which could also mask additional problems until the monitors get turned back on)

update. I installed the knock sensor today and did the idle relearn procedure. everything went great and the car now feels way smoother and happier in the high rpms. i had a CEL for the knock sensor which obviously went away but i noticed that the other cel i had for the intake P0411 and P0410 went away also but they eventually came back as i was on my way home from work. i can't stand the check engine light and would like to fix the problem. i have the k&n fipk and I've revised all the lines but still a cel. does anyone have information on how to fix this cel for this specific intake? if so please share. thanks
