Default Removing Differential Pumpkin

If anyone has a link to a DIY I could not find one. Found nothing in search.

Just wondering how hard this is if I wanted to ship to Hardtopguy for a 4.56 install.

Is it just a matter of removing a diff cover, bearing caps, pull pumpkin, then the reverse for reinstall?

I have ZERO experience working with a differential. I do have floor jack, jack stands, ratchets, air tools and torque wrenches.

If it is as simple as drain, remove, install, torque correctly and seal the housing with some goo, I'd give it a try. Anything more technical and I would look for other options.

Any tips welcome.

Thanks in advance.

To remove the differential its as easy as jack the car up very high, loosen a couple bolts, pull it off.

To install the 4.57 gears, not at all. Bring it to a professional thats the only way to do it.

To pull the diff is easy. Just need a ball joint popper to pull the shafts out. I think thats the only tool i needed to pull the diff that i didn't have in my tool box.

ya the hardest parts are to remove the ball joints and then putting the diff back in was a pain or was it pulling it out...I dont remember but the ball joints had me stuck for a good 30 min but then again I had the ball joint fork which sucked

Let me clarify, I thought for the purpose of getting the 4.56 from hardtop guy, you remove an internal assembly part inside the diff, and not the whole diff itself. Am I wrong?

You can remove the diff send it in and HTG will send you one with 4.56's in exchange for your stock one. Or you can get the 4.56's from HTG and then get them installed in your diff to my understanding.

You ship him the whole diff to Hardtopguy.

Then he sends you one back with the 4.56 installed in them.

Pulling off the diff is not as easy as the first couple posts make it out to be...

but its not hard either .. get someone to help you (it is pretty heavy and you'll be in an awkward position to lower it if youre on your back)

Safety first get a friend to help
I pull the rear without having to do ball joints. I just tilt the rear up and pop out one axle then do the same for the other side.
