Default Removing OEM Hardtop Headliner

Can someone give me a walk-through? Is there a risk of breaking anything, like clips and etc? Part of the vinyl has separated from the actually headliner and I plan on peeling and respray it with some adhesive.

Can you just glue down a some of the clips that came loose without removing the entire piece ?. The liner is held down by locking into 8 fasteners/clips. I had a couple fastener clips come loose on mine and I just re-glued them down without disturbing the others. There are 8 clips that are glued to the metal top, and the liner has 8 pins that slide in and out of those clips. If the clips pull away from the metal roof see they have to be glued back down.

To remove the headliner you have to remove the rubber weatherstripping at the front of the driver and passenger sides, remove the b pillar plastic trim on the inside, two lock handles/latches, and the roof side rubber trim on both sides. The headliner then needs to be slid forward towards the front of the roof to release the pins from the clips. The liner slides in and out of the clips by pushing/sliding it towards the front to release, and sliding it to the rear to engage/lock. Do not try to lift it upwards as the fastener clips will break away from the roof entirely. The fastener clips are not supposed to come away from the metal roof, the liner is made to release away from the clips by sliding in and out.

On mine a couple fastener clips actually came away from the metal hood, so I glued them back down with weatherstripping adhesive as they were accessible from the sides of the hardtop without having to touch the liner. hth.

not likely as the weatherstripping is bolted at the front of the roof which needs to be pulled away. It would be much easier to work on with the hood sitting on a carpet or blanket upside down if I was doing it. When I had mine in that position earlier this year I noticed one fastener had pulled away from the roof and I was able to glue it down without removing any other parts as it was accessible from the side.

Default Removing Hardtop Liner

I read thru these conversations and am not at all confident that I understand the jargon and procedure.

A small dent in my hardtop needs to be removed. I’m checking to see if it can be addressed from above, which I doubt can be done, but from the underside will be both possible and give a better result. Seems to me that the parts that must be removed to free the liner would necessarily be damaged to the point of needing to be replaced to do this?

MAybe posting photos of the areas in question and the overall hardtop (top and bottom) may help.

Default Removing OEM Hardtop Headliner

I have cleared the headliner from all but the clips. I understand that the liner must be slid forward until the clips reach the enlarged area that allows them to be freed by pulling away from the metal top. I’ve tried to slide it, but very little movement for what seems to me to be WAY more effort than it should require. I don’t want to damage the liner, especially, nor the clips (which is what I call the parts glued onto the liner that fit into the notches and hold the liner in place when slid backwards into the tighter/narrower area of each notch). Any tips on how to proceed? I’ll include a photo of my present point of progress. (Note: the B-pillar on the left is completely detached from the top and out of the way of the liner)

Trying to remove this liner. Cannot get it to budge forward to align clips on liner with larger notch point on top that would allow the liner to detach from the top. Any ideas/suggestions?

I have a dented roof also, right where the reinforced pillar meets the headliner in the pic. Following!

not sure if you were able to figure this out or not but one clip holding the headliner is similar but different. Front center clip is designed to pop out. Once that clip is released then the entire liner can be slid forward and out.
