Have been doing an engine build since September and due to unforeseen circumstances, it's still not installed in the car. Since I did not plan on taking this long, I DID NOT get a full tank of gas and add fuel stabilizer. So, since this fuel has been sitting for 4 months now and probably an additional month, I am worried that it might cause some damage to the fuel injectors and the new 2.4L engine.
So my questions are:
- Should I even be concerned or is it not an issue?
- If it's a problem, is it safe to connect the battery, prime the fuel pump and drain the fuel through the main fuel line that goes to the fuel rail?
- I thought about adding some sort of additive as well but I don't think it would help since it wouldn't mix in the entire system anyway.
I wouldn't worry about it, I was honestly expecting to open this thread and read about 5+ year old fuel, not a couple months...
Get a bottle of water remover and add it to the system, or just fill the tank up with 91 and be on your way. It's really not a big concern. I never used stabilizer when storing cars for 6+ months in the winter.
I haven't used stabilizer for years. Cars are stored in a heated garage for the off season, and have a full tank of non-ethanol high test Shell. I wouldn't worry about a few month old gas. Top the tank up with fresh gas and you're good to go.
Ended up finally finishing engine install and got her up and running on first start attempt! Currently 550 miles on the the new motor with no issues. Felt no negative side effects from the old fuel, simply topped off with fresh 93 and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner.
