Removing rubber hose fittings
What is the easiest way of removing the rubber host fittings out of the engine valve cover without damaging the hose itself?

Over time, rubber hoses develop a habit bond with the metal nipple. The bond strength can exceed the integrity of the hose, such that just yanking it off could tear it. You always want to first break this bond. You can twist the hose, or get a thin tool in between hose and rubber that you can work the whole way around. One of the tools in my arsenal is a radiator hose removal tool. A screwdriver sorta handle with a bent metal spike coming out. It bends back to point back in direction of handle. Its made to let you work it around to break the bond, pulling back on the handle as you go. You could improvise such a tool. Just be careful not to pierce the hose!

I use a small amount of (just enough to put a film down) of dielectric silicone grease (3M Silicone grease at any automotive store-it is the same chemical makeup as ShinEtsu) on the fittings to make it easy to remove the next time.
