Default Replace Shifter Housing

Hey s2ki,

First, my question: is it possible to remove the shifter housing and rubber boot from the transmission (from under the car) without having to tilt/begin lowering the transmission?

Second, I apologize if this has already been covered elsewhere in the forum... I did my best to search the internet for any info and really couldn't find much. I search this forum for a thread/post, looked on Google search, and checked YouTube and this was the only related thread I could find: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...ousing-780544/. The author of the thread's last post, the last post in the thread, is exactly what I'm wondering:

I think i might be able to remove the housing piece without lower the trans. I'm hoping to unbolt the 4 bolts from the retainer piece, unbolt the 4 bolts from the housing piece from above, then from underneath slide out the housing piece. Then in reverse order put it back together...
Third, the story/how did this happen...While attempting to re-grease my shifter I accidentally over-torqued the 1 of the 3 mounting bolts into the shifter housing and ended up shearing the head off. I tried my best to tap a new thread but I ended up cracking the side wall of the shifter housing in the process. I contemplated only having 2 of 3 bolts (like the OP of the linked thread) but decided against it and now I am trying to replace the shifter housing.

I know many of you will wonder why I don't just go and try it - unfortunately I do not have a garage so my s2000 is at my parents' house in their garage. I only have time to drive to their house on the weekends so I try to prepare myself (via watching videos/reading DIYs and pre-buying any tools I need that I don't already have) so that I can maximize my time in the garage. If I have to lower the transmission in order to replace the housing I will - I just want to make sure I'm prepared and don't run into any surprises next weekend!

This is the piece in question: https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...5-s2a-003.html.

Can I pull that housing out (with the boot) from under the car and replace it without having to lower the transmission?

I tried looking at the maintenance manual for a better reference but it doesn't give much perspective either. Lastly the parts page and it's diagram aren't much help...

Thanks!

3, 5, and 11 will come out as one piece.

You will need to lower rear of trans a little, but it's simple to do.

There are two dowels in there (#15) be sure both are in place.

Thanks @Billman250, you are correct!

I tried my best to remove 3/5/11 without lowering the rear of the trans but it was not able to clear the gap. It ended up being very simple though, just had to lower the rear of the trans via the black frame brace/mounting bracket. I will update this thread with pictures as soon as I finish the procedure... for now the shifter housing and rubber boot (5 and 11) are on back-order via HondaPartsNow!
