How many of you guys out there have had their diff's replaced under Honda warranty? What dealer and what year is your car? Honda already said they would cover mine again, however I am building a case for American Honda so they will release a TSB for other S2 owners who might have this problem in the future. I know some high up people at American Honda that can get this done. The more cases I can establish, the better our chances, so reply with your info here!

Have not had the Diff replaced, but suspect I may need to. Is this a common problem item?

I don't know a whole lot about these things, but I do get some noise from the back end when making a really tight turn at low speed (parking, etc.) Also one or three 'clicks' when first releasing the clutch, usually only in first gear.

For instance, if I start in first gear the initial torque seems to make something click a little bit, and then if I use reverse, it does it again sort of like something is slipping just a tiny bit one way and then the other.

Are these signs of a differential that needs attention?

The clicking or creaking is not indicative of a diff problem but the tight circle stuff, if different from the fwd/rev creaking, is.

Does anyone know if there have been many '02 diffs that have failed? I was told long ago, that one of the design changes for the '02 model had to do with the diff.

I guess creaking is a better word than clicking. Yes the two are distincly separate (i.e. happen independently of each other.)

But as far as the other noise, I can't think of a way to describe it in words. It's like a cross between a whoosh and a ghost's Wooo (a cartoon ghost.) Is this impending doom, or an indication that I need to change the fluid? This is a year 2000, with about 30k miles.

As far as the creaking, does anyone know what that is or if it's just one of those normal noises?

I know I'm taking this thread off on a tangent, sorry.
