Default Replacement clutch and/or gearbox?

Hi guys,

So I picked up a beautiful s2000 the other day and fell in love too much to notice that there might be an issue with the clutch.

There's perhaps a 2-3 inch amount of leeway on the way down, there's no resistance u tip after the pedal has travelled this far then on the way back up it feels slightly jerky almost like its catching on something. I notice the issue when going from 1st to 2nd more than in other gears and they're also the year changes that feel most resistance when changing.

I'm stressing a bit as the last thing I need to be doing is paying to replace a clutch and tranny but I'm not sure what my options are. I'm not mechanically minded enough to start attempting a DIY job. I'm sure I could follow instructions but the possibility of making it worse is pretty high.

Could anyone lend some advice as to what I can do to remedy it please?

Currently at a garage awaiting diagnosis.

If it is pretty severe is there anyone in Norfolk or surrounding areas that could carry out the work?

First thing to look for with large freeplay is low clutch fluid and air because of it.

The fluid wasn't low but ill be draining / replacing it tomorrow as per one of the gravity guides here. The technician that looked at it said he thought it was the clutch due to how it responded when pedal was being 'released' or returning from floor. What's the terminology for this?

Also got a quote for 1100£ replacement and another for 800£! Touch concerned but hopefully...hopefully tomorrow will be a good day.

I changed the fluid today using the gravity method mentioned on the site. It was pretty clean on the way out, found an air bubble which was nice

After I replaced it there was less slack on the way down but still jerky when releasing.

My guess is that it needs to be replaced after all. Any other suggestions or things to try?
