Default Replacing mufflers only in an S2000

I did a search and turned up little on this subject. I'd like to replace just the stock mufflers on my S2000 with a pair of less restrictive stainless steel ones. I want to do this for a little louder exhaust note as well as the aesthetic appearance of a pair of stainless mufflers. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what brand mufflers would work best for this application.

Seen it done it, been there. Its cheap and easy. I used DynoMax cans with Nakayama tips, it sounds great! The stock exhaust isn't restrictive, don't expect any gains here. The only purpose of this mod is to the the "sound" right.

I'm curious to this as well. I have thought about doing the same too. If I'm not mistaken, they do just sell the Supersprint Mufflers for the s2000. Not to sure on the price and specs, but it does have the oval tips and I'm sure it will add a little more sound which is exactly what I'm looking for. What I'm not too sure about is how it sounds. Anyone have information on this?

Jerry,

Your exhaust tips shake like the booties at Medusa on a Saturday night.

You aren't going to find any gains from any exhaust on the S2000. The stocker is about as good as it gets.

However, at 50lbs you can save a good deal of weight by going to a single outlet. Look for gains in that department instead.

I don't get why people keep insisting this. I got 6-10Kw over the entire range, and have the dyno sheets to prove it. (now if I could only find somewhere to post them!)

The Stock S2000 mufflers are 2.25" reverse flow muffler. An aftermarket muffler can be 2.25" or even 2.5" straight throughs. Which one do you think is going to give higher exhaust velocity and overall flow?

Ah, here we go. A good article about how to get more power out of a NA S2000 cheaply. Born and bred in Australia:

Sunder,

First of all, that method in the article won't be considered 'cheap' when the topic is regarding changing just the mufflers.

In addition, that article has been around for some time now, and it has been brushed aside by most people here. Mainly due to the fact that well, it sounds like a freaking lie!

I too have very serious doubts about s2000 being able to make 220kw at the flywheel with intake exhaust and the motec. I do remember reading about this in this forum somewhere and there were pretty good technical explanations but I can't remember.

Another explanation may simply be that people would rather believe the words of spoon or mugen who do have a whole lot more credibility within the market.

Guess I'll just have to pull out my dyno charts...

I didn't get 14Kw, but I did get 6 in most places, with a peak gain of 10Kw in the mid range.

I'm still thinking that there's more to it than just 2-3hp to be gained.

So does my shifter. Its all the 'power'.

I'm thinking it all shakes like the scank's at Down Under moreso...
