Default Reprogramming ECU

My 2006 ECU hasn't been reset since I installed a new battery 3 yrs ago. I think it has been running "rich" lately, especially on a cold start. I have instructions from this site how to do it, but the direction don't say if this is done when engine is cold or "warmed up" Anyone know which is best? Thanks in advance.

You are not reprogramming anything by disconnecting the battery.

Engine temperature should not matter either.
