Default Resetting ECU??

Need advice on resetting ECU. I got my Comptech CAI and invidia exhaust installed today and was wondering if resetting the ECU will be beneficial? With the Comptech CAI intake the engine is getting more of the ram air effect and Invidia exhaust is more free flowing.... less restricting. By resetting the ECU the computer will recaliber air and fuel mixture..... the engine is more efficient and add more HP!!
How do you reset the ECU???

definately resetting the ecu after any engine modifcation is a good idea. helps remap the air/fuel curve.

search this forum for the exact directions to reset the ECU. if you're not worried about loosing your radio presets, you can always just disconnect the negative terminal on your battery. with PGM-FI leave it out for a 5-10 minutes and then reconnect. turn on the car without any accessories on(radio, a/c, fan, etc). let the car idle through 2 fan cycles(normal operating temp). turn car off. next time you start it up the ecu will reprogrammed.

OR

the car will naturally adapt by itself over a week or so.

It messes up the idle and throttle response. It will adjust in 20 cycles so I never do it.

What happens if you don't reset the ECU after an engine mod? Will the ECU automatically adapt to the change eventually?

i learned how to reset the ECU in xviper's header install. and i quote:

Reset the ECU (pull the 7.5 amp fuse that is in the 3rd slot on the right bank of fuses under the dash - for about 30 seconds).

as far as i know, it will adapt to the new changes. i reset mine after i installed my toda header and had no problems.

It's the one labelled "BACK UP":

With the ignition key OFF, pull this for about 30 seconds.

(You won't have daytime running lights, so the first slot will be empty.)

Xviper,

Can you get the same effect by removing same back up fuse in the fuse box under the hood ?

This, I cannot say - never tried it. Usually the fuses under the "hood" are higher amps and control more things than the ones under the "dash". My philosophy is to do as little as necessary to get the job done.
