Default Resonator on stock exhaust questions?

Ok the resonator on the stock exhaust......What does this do. Does it make the stock exhaust quieter? If i was to remove this and put a staight pipe in its place would the exhaust sound meaner...louder or like a dinosuar farting. I want a better sound from the exhaust but 600 min up to 1500 for a better sound and three horse power is steep. If i remove it i could probably shed a least five pounds of wieght.
I once saw an s2000 with michegan plates vanity plates "1bads2k" it had a geeat sounding exhaust...it looked stock...i asked in the michengan area forum and a few people new the car i was talking about and they said they altered the stock resonator? hmmmm Just thinking anyone alter there resonator for a better sound?
Just curious......Thanks in advance.....p.s......could i just remove the baffles in the resonator or drill right threw them...is there baffles in the resonator or is it fiberglass type material....i looked in the helms...but they have like one page on the exhaust and no internal views of its componets...excet for the cat. Thanks....p.s. Eat honey roasted peanuts and be proud!

I don't think anybody who's awake really knows. If I knew, I'd tell ya. Can I have the peanut anyway?

to answer your question, don't remove the resonator. The resonator is what keeps your exhaust from creating a real tinny or rattling sound. i've driven a prelude and S2000 with open cat, really loud, and annoying. I've also driven both with an open resonator. This on the prelude was a little louder than the Greddy EVO, and on the S2000 was louder than the Tanabe Racing Medallion and J's Racing exhaust. I currently drive my S2000 with a resonator and no mufflers, and I love it. I'm debating on carrying the tail pipes from the resonator to the stock exhaust location and driving it like that so that it looks stock, but sounds mean. If you were to remove the resonator and go through your stock exhaust, it would be about as quiet as stock, with a rattle to it after like 3000 rpm. The resonator's purpose is to change the pitch of the exhaust, and the muffler is to quiet it. i hope I was able to help.

chop off the stock mufflers and weld on suppertrapps, I am waiting to see some results on that set up. One other person has done this, no sound or dyno sheets on it.

I myself bought a used RM Racing exhaust system and love it!!! It is a little loud once it gets really hot. Nice formula sound. $550.00 shipped to my house 3 day UPS. Looked brand new, I have pictures on a roll some where that needs to be developed.

Ahhhh Thankyou! X-viper....shipping out the peanut today..second day air! Malu...thanks for the info. Yeah i am going to remove the canisters in the stock mufflers to give me a stock look with a mean tone. I have an extra set of stock duals so if i mess up i can put the stock un-modded ones back on. Or i might chop the stock mufflers off and maybe look for 2 dual port mufflers to attach..........oh yeah...fun in the garage on 90 degree days......cmisk2......hmmmm supertrapps are real loud ....i guest you can add those disks to get a nice sound i am not to fimilar with those.
