Default Retaining OEM intake.....

I probably deserved to get a good flaming for this, but:

I recently acquired my first S2K (yay) and don't really want to throw alot of aftermarket parts in it, they seem to bring me nothing but trouble & unwanted attention. All i really want to do is just keep the car insanely detailed.

I'm going to do the mini-resonator removal, which i hear adds just a slight tone to the exhaust, hopefully it's nothing too big....

But what about the vtec engagement? I've heard the car w/ an AEM intake and it sounds amazing, but i drive in an area where I'll have alot of hydrolock worries......and I'd just like to avoid aftermarket, is there a similair trick people do for the intake, just to make the transition sound more noticible ?

Remove the airbox lid and change to a K & N filter. That'll give you the tone you're looking for.

However, you'll probably lose HP due to heatsoak.

But I left the airbox cover on and use the K & N. Sounds good.

hmm......I'll give the K&N filter a shot, but i'll def. have to leave the lid.......but, as a random shot in hell, cutting the baffles & throwing on knockoff spoon snorkel, would that even remotely effect the sound ?

ty again

I'm assuming that you mean the air box mini-resonator. No need to "remove" it. You can simply block the entrance hole to it in the main airbox and achieve the same results. You will be glad to know that the change will certainly be "nothing to big" - as a matter of fact you will probably notice no change at all (speaking from personal experience).

If you are referring to removing the exhaust resonator I would think twice before doing this. By removing it you will probably experience a "droning" sound at certain rpm's (3 to 4K) that will drive you crazy (no personal experience - just several other threads that mention this).

You can remove the mini exhaust resonator. I did it and it's really only louder at WOT. That sounds just like what you are looking for. Absolutley no droning occurs. I think if you were to remove the "weener" looking resonator then droning would happen. Cutting the baffles in the stock airbox would probably affect the sound as well. It only cost me $20 to have the resonator removed and if you are not happy with it you could have it reinstalled. It's a pretty low risk mod.

PRM intake is a very simple install, doesn't require any cutting, has no danger of hydrolocking, and is the best sounding intake of them all. Some say they've lost horsepower with theirs, but I've never noticed that on mine.
