Default Rev limiter in neutral

O my way back from lunch today i was stopped at a red light and i was late, my first mistake . So i put my car in first and held the clutch. when the light changed let the clutch out as i floored it, well apparently i didnt put it all the way in first . So i revved up to nine grand and the red light flashed, but i didnt hear the fuel cutoff. Maybe i left of the gas right in time so as not to hit it. But my question is does the rev limiter work in neutral? Im assuming yes, but id just like the be safe.

Rev limiters are by .................................................. ... "REVS" and is independent of what gear the tranny is in or not in. (The exception of course, is an over-rev on a downshift.)
Don't worry about it. (But don't make a habit of it. )

Id definitely agree with xviper there, i wouldnt make a habbit of it but thats why the rev limiter is there. I believe viper taught me a good lesson about reving without load in one of my previous posts, but as long as ya dont do it all the time, you should be fine.
