Default Rod knocking BAD!

So im on my way home lastnight top down enjoying the weather doing about 70-75 mph and i start to hear a loud knock. So i pulled right over and turned the car off. Checked the oil and it was dry! I just checked it about a week ago and it was a bit over the full line. and i only drove it maybe 200 miles since then.So yeah its knocking so loud! So i had it towed back home. So im thinking for sure its a rod. Do any of u guys have any idea about how much this would cost to fix? Should i just beef it up since im going to have the motor torn apart anyways and go turbo? The car only has 32k on it. Just wondering what price range i would be in to get this fixed. And if it would be worth the extra money to build it up. Any advice would help.. i was going to sell the car but since this has happend maybe i should keep it and go turbo..

You can buy a new shortblock from Honda for a couple thousand too. I'd buy the shortblock before I let someone dig around inside the motor. Depends on the cost though. You might be able to get away with just putting in new bearings.

Reminds me, I need to check my oil again...

Oil starvation can produce all kinds of different sounds - all of which will sound really bad. You don't know at this point, if it's a rod. What's it sound like when you fill the oil back up?

You are counting dead chickens before they finish laying all their eggs.

where did the oil go? all of it disappeared in less than 1 week and 200 miles, you should have been dripping oil everywhere you went. what's the rest of the story?

I need to ask, does this really happen? I've seen several guys lose an engine who supposedly had full oil one week and none the next.

There really only two places oil can go: either on the road due to a leak or into the air by passing through the engine. I would think either would leave fairly obvious telltale signs.

Unless there is a mysterious oil syphoner creeping through our garages at night.

fill up the oil and start it up, seems like you shut it down pretty quick. You might get lucky.
