ok guys i filled her up! Started the car and with in seconds the sound got quiter by about 80% . I let it idle for bit and it got a bit quiter if i rev it up a bit it still knocks but not nearly as loud as it did. but the car does run and idles fine. I have never ran my car even close to being low on oil but i guess when i checked it i did a quick look and thought it was good to go! I was wrong. Something so simple but yet i messed my car up because of it. So I guess i will have to find a shop that i can trust and take it to them to find out the damage. I know it could be a number of things but do u guys have any idea what it could be.. like maybe a valve or something like that. Im sure if the rod was messed up it wouldnt run and idle like it did. I could be wrong. Thanks for all ur help guys.. and thank Xviper i will sleep better tonight atleast knowing the engine will still run.

Unless you have a major oil leak that shows on the ground the consumption of that much oil should leave tell tale deposits on the back of your car. Wipe (lightly) the back end with a clean, soft, white towel and see if there is oil there. If there is then you should consider cylinder scoring. This is a major cause of rapid oil loss. Before you run it pull the plugs and look for tell tale signs of excess oil burning in one or more cylinders.

If it continues to knock after adding oil do not drive it and shut it off. You may be able to salvage the crank. Continuing to run the engine will rapidly destroy it.

How much oil did it take to fill it back up?

Probably a big end bearing gone. Any way you look at it an engine rebuild/replacemetn short block is in your future.

Knocking doesn't get any better.

It will run for a long as it takes the rod or main bearing to beat themselves to death.
Consider the pin pulled on this grenade.

I'd have a mechanic check the connecting rod and main bearings and take a look at the crank. Its a pain. But replacing all the bearings can be done for around $800
if the crank is reuseable. It can all be done from under the car. Do not run the car at all! Once bearing damage starts all the oil in the world won't help. They will slowly wear and the more they wear the more likely it will cause damage to the crank. The Crank alone is a $800 dollar part.

Pull the dip stick and place it in the sunlight with the oil on the end. If you see tiny copper/brass/bronze like flakes its your bearings. Might be worth your time to pull the valve cover and look at any oil in there. The flakes like to settle and or pool and sometimes can not be seen on the dip stick.

I just had my motor rebuilt from over a year ago.
I know that knock from the bottom way to well.

Like Sideways said I hope your crank is till good. Mine was burnt on the number 2 and 4 rod journal. I had the full reading on my dipstick when my car spent the rod on the number 4 bearing.
Numer 2 and 4 clynder had minor scoring.

After looking at the oil pump it was bad. It would stick then turn.
I know of three people in the Tampa area that have fried there main bearings running a stock motor.
I wish you luck in getting rebuilt.
This will take some time unfortunatly.

That really blows hopefully you didn't stay on it for too long with it starved. Wouldn't be good if the cam caps also got scuffed to death
