fill up the oil and start it up, seems like you shut it down pretty quick. You might get lucky.
Count the oil that's put in. That'll tell you how close to empty you were. Might make a difference.

lol.. it really hits hard!! I will try to fill it up with oil and see what happens been to scared to start it. put a bit of oil in it that i had in the car and started it up for a friend and he was almost sure it was a rod. it still runs... Yeah i have no clue where my oil went for real. U would think if it got down that low i would get a check engine lite or the oil light would come on from low oil presure??I dont see anywhere where it could have leaked out! But ur right it had to have gone some where! I guess i will fill it up with oil and see what happens.. So u think it would be better just to buy a whole new motor .. i have been wanting to go FI.. hmmmmm i guess it depends on how deep i want to dig into my pockets.. I hope ur right Xviper.. but for the noise its making i dont think oil is going to fix it!!

The ECU will not register a CEL for low oil or oil pressure. The low oil pressure light won't go on unless there is below a set threshold of oil pressure. You can still have enough oil pressure to keep the light off with as little as 2 qts in there. This is why it would be a good idea to count how much you put in. This will tell you how much was left when it crapped out. I've witnessed accounts of S2000 engine that have been down to about 2 qts. After it was topped up, they were fine and have been running for years. Not saying this is your case, but you are beginning to make all kinds of assumptions without further information and letting your worst fears guide your thoughts. If that's what you need to do, there's nothing anyone can tell you that will change this. You go right ahead.

As for the noise it's making, this is something you can't convey over the net in print. What may constitute a horrendous noise to you and your friend may not be anything earth shattering considering some of the events that have transpired. Again, you are making assumptions based on your worst fears and on something you may not have ever heard before.

I'm not trying to blow sunshine up your ass, but you sound like your own worst enemy. Take it a step at a time and see what gives. Don't start the damn thing again till you have enough oil in there. Having done it once already may have been all it took to make it or break it.

Oil pressure light comes on at something like 2-7 PSI most of the time. By the time it comes on, it's often too late. I can't find the actual pressure threshold in the manual. It's open when the engine's running and closed when it's not.

keep us updated... my view is EVERY car should come with a oil press gauge... once the dummy light comes on it's too late... good luck

BINGO!!!

I don't understand why Honda didn't put one into the S. An Accord I can understand, but an S should damn sure have one. Does the NSX have an oil pressure gauge?

Good luck lude92_si, let us know what happens.

An oil pressure gauge should be in a car like this, BUT the problem is that not everyone knows how to interpret what it says. Most people will initially freak out when the car is being driven in hot weather, in stop and go traffic. When they stop and the engine idles, the oil pressure gauge will read next to nothing, yet this doesn't mean there is low oil. To use an oil pressure gauge properly, one must learn the subtle nuances of what the needles does when there is low oil levels. Otherwise, you may as well stick to the "idiot light".

I'm not convinced an oil pressure gauge would help in 90% of these cases. American's don't check their oil. Basically, this guy ran his car dry on oil (so it sounds like). May not have been his fault but, most of the time it is.

The problem is, you might be down 2-2.5 quarts and still get plenty of oil pressure most of the time. Every quart down, you're that much more likely to suck air at the oil pickup during normal driving.

Honda says 36 PSI at idle, 85 PSI at 3000 RPM. Why can't I get an oil idiot light that activates at 25-30 PSI. I need a light that comes on before I damage my motor, not afterwords. I think an oil level indicator would be more valueble than a pressure gauge. Even my old Renault LeCar had an oil level sensor in it.

Anyone know how much it cost to get an oil gauge?
