The real moral of the story is to use your brakes to slow the car, pads are cheap, clutches are not, valves definitely are expensive.
If there is a moral to this story, it is NOT the one you just wrote. He was NOT trying to slow down. He was trying to accelerate and speed up by "upshifting". He accidentally "mis-shifted" to 2nd when he meant to go to 4th.
Nevertheless, even in another circumstance, downshifting sequentially when decelerating is simply GOOD practice. It sets you up in the right gear for the right speed and shows driver control. Just pushing the clutch in and doing nothing else but using the brakes is poor car control and shows a driver with a lack of skill and proficiency.

P.S. Fishfryer...if you can't say anything constructive go back to the Corvette board and maybe they can help you fix your car. Flaming here is frowned upon.

Please ask you dealer which CEL codes were posted by OBD-II (P0301-P0304 or others?). Damage may have occurred when "I forgot to plug in an ignition cable".
Missing a downshift is very easy in this car....push in the clutch to save your ass!

I just remember multiple misfiring codes, there were many, but even the guys looking at it looked confused at the multitude of codes. The ignition cable incident occurred nearly 3 years ago, so if it did do damage, it wasn't enough to cause immediate damage.

I mis-shifted before about two years ago, and pressed in the clutch immediately, but this time I had a bit slower reaction time and gased for a split second. That split second cost me a grand and a half.

I guess the moral of the story is DON'T MIS-SHIFT!

I apoligize for the tone of my reply, I did not mean to make light of someone else car problems. However I do believe in doing all my braking in a straght line, downshifting to accelerate, and steering with the throttle only when it comes to decent amounts of money.

Apology accepted on behalf of the board! We all know it is easy to get caught up in the moment....we have all done it! But it takes a bigger person to acknoledge the mistake. Welcome aboard

Now let's see if we can help this poster out..........
