Default Rough shifting into second

When I shift into second on my AP2 , when cold especially, I get a grind. Do the rest of you get this? Will a change of trans fluid help? Does it need to go in to the dealer? I have a Honda extended warranty.

Sometimes when it's really cold out I notice the transmission is just a bit funny all around.

On my AP1, when the transmission's inbetween cold and operating temp, I can't drop it into 2nd without a little extra umph of effort. It doesn't grind, but I found that I didn't like to pull it a bit harder. So I just skip 2nd when that happens and put it into 3rd (holding it for a bit against the gate to let the synchro's match speed).

You can try a change of transmission fluid, and it might fix or allieviate the problem for a while. I doubt that the dealer would do anything about though.

Has this always happened or just recently?

This is a common scenerio for both AP1 and AP2 models.

I posted about the same thing, but my shifter doesnt grind. There is just a dull thud. If I double clutch just on that shift, it does go away. I am thinking of waiting until the weather warms up and if it is still there, am planning to take it in.

Just swap the transmission fluid with your choice. I prefer Honda MTF, got rid of the crunchy 2nd problem for me.

I double cluch until things warm up, then shifting smooths out - -

My S has just over 9k miles on it so I'm sure the fluid has never been changed, might try it in the future.

I have 22K on an 01. I have about 8K since I changed tranny and diff fluid. I used Honda MTF-it has help up great until recently. Plus temps here in Atlanta have gotten consistently cold and some freezing days. I took the S out the other day to drive it around. Reverse was almost impossible, notchy going into all gears except 5th and 6th. Getting into 1st at stop lights was a concious effort. No grinding at all, just the same symptoms and feeling everyone else has-clunky, thud, notchy etc.

Have I reached the life of the MTF? Are tranny fluid changes usually around 8-10K. I have a couple bottles of the friction modified syncromesh that I will try next; only 'cause I have heard good things. But other than that Honda MTF is just fine
