RPMs stay high after shifting
hey guys first post here,
bought a 2005 s2k a few weeks ago with 27k miles. drives around fine, start offs from a stop are easy and predictable with typical clutch slippage. only problem is during full acceleration when i shift to the next gear especially to 2nd and 3rd, the rpms stay just below redline AFTER completely depressing the clutch and in the gear and not the rpm of the next gear. im 90% sure its just the clutch slipping but when i test drove the car i mashed it at around 2500 rpm in 3rd and no clutch slippage at all. also i feel like 27k miles is a bit low for a burnt out clutch. i guess im just shifting the car too fast although i am positive my foot is coming off the gas pedal during the shift. im coming from a big turbo cobalt ss and heavier clutch where even if with a shift just as fast the rpms dropped instantly with the higher gear and the shift was smooth. can anybody confirm its a slipping clutch for sure?

Has nothing to do with the CDV.
The reason your rpms stay up is the 22lb AP2 flywheel.
Try this...let you foot completely off the gas BEFORE you push the clutch in the slightest bit. It all about timing with an AP2.
See if this improves things for you.

Thats exactly what I was thinking because It would only happen only sometimes when I was shifting as fast as possible not realizing I was not letting off the gas before pressing the clutch. When i replace the clutch I'm swapping in a ap1 flywheel or maybe even lighter. Thanks guys!

AP1 flywheel in AP2 is a great mod. it allows the RPMs to drop fast and youll get quicker shifts, better acceleration, and deceleration.
There is one drawback which you will learn to adjust to..During the 1-2 shift, the ratio is so close that if you dont take it to 8k and shift to perfection, the car will fall out of VTEC and the car will have a big lurching flat spot.
You will adjust to it and the rewards are very nice.
