Red face S2000 Back to Life

New to posting on this forum, been reading alot and learning from these forums. Love this community. FYI I'm very new to all of this, just getting into cars. Quite familiar with motorcyles, but sometimes this is a different animal.

I recently bought my brothers 2002 2k, which had been sitting in the woods uncovered for the last 4+ years. Car was in running order before sitting, brother is in army, just couldn't afford it/ transport it anymore. Has some performance mods installed:

Injen cold air intake
7m skunk 2 throttle body
port match intake manifold
skunk 2 headers, cat delete, exhaust
spec stage 2 clutch/ flywheel
hks hipermax coilovers

Transplant engine cause my brother blew out the original, est.150k miles on motor ran fine for a few years before it sat, 75k on body.

Looking for any tips on maintenance to get it back into full working order. The pulley on that water pump was snapped off so that was replaced before it could go anywhere. Oil replaced, fresh gas after draining tank. Alternator is shot so that's next. Odds and ends like spark plugs replaced, brake light switch was rusted out/ not functional. Bit of moldy interior from leaking soft top. Going to clean intake filter.

Wondering what else could/ should be done. Any comments or tips is appreciated, thanks!

Welcome, to the club!

Have any photos that you can post of the body, chassis, and (of course) the engine?

Thanks!

Look for threads relating to Winter/LongTerm Storage. You should be able to find LOTS of info.

The one tip that came to mind was to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and turn the engine over a few times to circulate the oil throughout the engine before starting it.

I guess the basic compression test would be nice, before sinking too much money into it.

Good luck, with the car!

Welcome to the family, man! Always awesome to see more people join or come back to the S. It's a Honda so the usual rules apply.

First things first, strip and clean the interior. It's probably moldy at this point. You can get really sick if you breathe that stuff in, so make sure you wear lung, skin, eye, and face protection when working on the car to prevent inhaling that stuff. You'll be sick for a month if you manage to inhale enough.

Definitely replace the radiator with a Koyorad because it's probably rusted and will send rust into the engine's cooling channels. Also do a leak-down/compression test to make sure the block is healthy.

All the bushings, ball joints, and mounts (engine, trans, diff) are shot due from oxidation after 20 years. Swap those. Your brother sounds like he was on it, but make sure the retainers are done for peace of mind, and do a valve adjustment. Do an oil change to flush the old oil, do a second change to flush the new oil, and after three dozen miles, do a third oil change to get the remnants out. I use Castrol High Mileage 10w-30. I'd also drain the diff and trans fluid and replace those.

That's all I can think of for now.

What are you looking to do with the car, bruv? Lots of different directions you can take.
