Default S2000 intake filter

Bought a new engine air filter and am puzzled by the appearance. The two parts on the end of the filter are for what?
Thanks

There is a little hole cut-out area that that piece fits down into in the factory air box. I think it just keeps it from moving around a little.

Do you have a standard airbox? I wouldn't have thought the airbox lid would properly close if the top of the cone wasn't in the hole.
