Default S2000 trans fliud...MTF or ATF?

Two dealers said they are using some "z spec" or something ATF in the trans. I've always used Honda MTF. Anyone shed some light on this one? BobbyB is coming out to my shop for a full S2000 svc, valves, fluid changes.

MTF! No question about it.

That's what I told them, but they think they're right. Anyone else?

Tell them to read our manual...

xviper will probably see this eventually, he knows the deal.

Honda MTF is also a synthetic-blend, its a great fluid actually.

MTF = Manual Transmission Fluid
ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid

Your Dealers = Dumbasses

Enjoy

Chalk another one up to "Owners correct / Dealers-Service Incorrect!!" Suprised?

Dumbass fits nicely. I even told them the 03 owners manual calls for MTF. They said, "well, this is what we put in all Honda transmissions". This is why I'll never go to the dealer. I sent Bobbyb to Honda to get the goods and they tried to tell him the ATF was what he needed, they're "pretty sure" But no, Hockey, this doesn't suprise me at all. They know jack about this car.

Right or wrong, I believe lots of places use ATF in manual transmissions of all kinds. I don't know why that is the practice but this isn't the first time I've heard of it.

I've used ATF in manual transmissions many times, so I'm familiar with which ones use it. We're talking S2000, not your typical application. Use what the owners manual says. These "places" who think they can put whatever they like in someone else's transmission should learn to read, and do the job correctly.

Many getrag transmissions require use of atf rather than MTF.
That said, the s2000 is not one of them. Personally, unless a lubricant has been heavily tested (50K miles +) I won't use it in my transmission, I've seen too many failures of transmissions because of improper lubrication. (Look at the Supra Twin Turbo boards)

I'll stick with Honda's lube, thanks.
