atf is not designed as a lubricant although it does offer some lube. atf is primarily a hydraulic fluid. auto trannys known as fluid drive, hydramatic, etc.
not an oil

mtf is a lubricant and coolant. no exposure to engine combustion contaminants, no thermal breakdown, can last forever.
is an oil

I thought I've read in another thread that Honda MTF is NOT synthetic...

...so it IS synthetic?

Please take this with a grain of salt. We had an S2000 meet/dinner a couple of nights ago where one of the owners also works at a Honda dealer (in Canada). He indicated that he looked at the dealer spec sheet on the MTF and said that it stated the fluid was synthetic (or a synthetic blend).
This should STILL be confirmed before assuming that it is.

MTF has proven to work great for me. a little notchy when the transmission is cold but once warmed up, it feels great.

does anyone have any idea what kind of tranny fluid the s2000 comes with from the factory? is it still honda MTF or some other special blend?
