Closely inspecting the rubber vacuum lines I noticed they're unlike any vacuum lines I have seen. For one, they held up exceptionally well. They have an outer grey finish that's satin but lightly textured. If you examine their cross section, you'll see the outer grey ring and inner black hose. Its as though the grey outer surface is a special coating.

I also never had vacuum lines that held up this well (I am repeating myself in disbelief), which makes me wonder if they're Nitrile (Buna-N) or a special blend.

Anyone with enough knowledge in rubber compounds care to comment?

I'm not certain what they're made of, but they do last a long time. It's not uncommon for the Vacuum line queen 86-89 Accords to still have all the original vacuum hoses after 15 years.

The emmisions control box on that gen Accords is packed full of vacuum hoses, especially the carbureted cars. The original hoses are even numbered with correct location on the outer hose.

 

Perhaps its time for me to contact Hard Top Guy and buy a roll of these OE Honda vacuum lines.

It's a co-extruded rubber hose. Both layers are heat,oil, & fuel resistant. Slightly different properties for each layer. Only comes in bulk rolls. 8meters if I remember correctly

doesn't honda sell the hose in different diameters? so there should be a part number for each diameter of hose?

 

yup there are different sizes, that p/n is for the 3.5mm which is most of the small vacuum stuff on top of the intake mani

 

That is a great piece of information. Thanks jlucas! I never was a fan of silicone vacuum hoses but the rubber alternatives were not that great. I noticed the S2000 vacuum lines were unique while working on the turbo system, this really is a viable alternative to silicone and has the improved grip with no need for zip ties or band clamps, yet remain supple and do not kink like regular rubber hoses.

I am simply impressed with how Honda has paid detail attention to such things.
