Default S2k clutch 'buzz' HELP!

Okay guys, so im thinking of buying a s2k. It is the '01 model and well everything is progressed well down the track except for today...I had my mechanic look at the car and he noticed a buzzing sound coming from the gearbox/clutch. It goes away when the clutch is pressed down but in neutral it has the noise. He's worried that it may require a full gearbox change which can be very expensive.

So guys can you tell me if this 'buzzing' sound is normal? I keep hearing about the infamous clutch buzz but from what i can gather that only happens when decelerating from 4th to 3rd.

Please let me know whats going on and if this noise is normal.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, fortunately it's normal- annoying as hell, but normal.

They say the newer ap2 oem clutch disks eliminate the noise because they have stronger springs or whatnot so a simple swap plus new throwout bearing should fix the noise. Doesn't hurt the car though.

Clutch buzz only occurs under engine braking/decel with the tranny engaged. If you're hearing this noise in neutral whether rolling or stopped it's something other than clutch buzz. Maybe something in the shifter or linkage?

Your issue is not clutch buzz. It is likely an input shaft bearing.

Yeah i thought it didn fit the criteria of clutch buzz as the car was not moving and in neutral that the noise was on. Had nothing to do with decel/braking
if its the input shaft bearing then its gona cost a couple of grand to change right?
