Default S2k won't allow W.O.T when engine cold

So the other day I was driving out of my parking lot after work, and when I tried to quickly accelerate in 1st gear, I noticed that the engine would not accelerate as fast as normal. The increase in RPM was extremely slow, almost as if trying to floor the car in 2nd gear from the dig. I'm quite sure I wasn't in 2nd gear lol Are there any major concerns for this? Generally it's not a good idea to push an engine during cold start but I didn't think there would be any mechanical restrictions.

You werent pressing on the pedal hard enough.

Lol dude wait until the engine is hot before you hit it. You should honestly wait until the engine is at operating temperature with any vehicle before flooring the gas pedal. Some extreme cases it will crack your head/block/heart

Aka smart engines restrict problematic conditions and thus you must be at performing temp in order to drive you car in such a way. I always baby my car for the first 5 mins and then you can decide to beat on it (not recommended though).

There IS a mechanical restriction to keep people from trying to do exactly what you tried to do......until the car warms up, it prevents VTEC.

Please post more about your car (year, color, miles, location, etc) so if you ever sell it, folks will know how the car was treated by its previous owner..........
