Default SC mounting bolt failure????

Have my car in the shop for the clutch TSB and some other work. Bear with me here, as I am not quite sure I am visualizing correctly what was described to me:

The mechanic said he found that the head had broken off one of the bolts that connect the SC bracket on the alternator side. This bolt goes into a hole that is in a metal bracket that holds the alternator to the engine; if he can't get the rest of the bolt out, he said the alternator bracket would need to be replaced.

Anyone else have any bolts fail? I thought all the failures were in the brackets themselves.

I have had a bolt or two fail on me as described... But never on the alternator side.. always on the VTEC bracket.
The mechanic should be able to get the bolt out without too much problem... but it will involve loosening up the other mounting bolts so that he can slide the plate out of the way and slide the alt bracket off the broken bolt. That will expose the remainder of the bolt for extraction.

well.....

removal of the bolt remains to be seen. It was described to me as a "teaser of a nub"

hmmm... I had one like that as well... I ended up using a dremel and carbide disk to cut a slot into the head of the nub, then used a flat blade screw driver to unscrew it..
