Billman, I agree with the zero freeplay but I had a question and I would really appreciate it if you can answer/explain it.

Would zero-freeplay clutch adjustment block the bleeder valve for auto adjusting slave cylinder? Or did I understand the mechanism wrong?

Thanks.

The regreasing the shifter ball helped me the most out of all the things mentioned so far...no kidding! My 2004 hasn't had a 2nd gear grind since doing this a year ago.

Also, make sure your clutch master cylinder is not leaking.

Anyone know a good thread of the "zero freeplay" adjustment with photos?

I'll try changing my clutch fluid next. Is there any other possible causes for the crunch that I could possible look into? Hopefully there's nothing too serious.

Also, would a differential fluid help with this problem? I've heard good things about Amsoil severe gear 75w90 and 75w110 browsing the internet.

I use the Amsoil 5w30 synthetic MTF in my tranny and it solved any low temp grinding I had. amazing stuff....don't put 75w90 in the transmission its not designed for a heavier oil. However the diff will do good with the Amsoil SG 75w90. I use all Amsoil now from the motor back and im happy with Amsoil products..
Have you had any experience with Amsoil SG 75w110 on the diff?

No..OEM says 75w90 so that's what I use. Same for motor and tranny... I feel using the correct weight as per OEM specs the way to go..

1. I started doing this 2 yrs.ago on my 04, and my son who just bought an 04, put all new Amsoil fluids in also.
2. I get them for a guy who sells at wholesale, I pay $8/qt. (and shipping is about 60 cents per qt.)I'm willing to pay a little extra over the $6.50/qt. for Mobil 1 (at Sams Club)., and I change once/yr. instead of twice/yr. (only put 8k on last yr.)

1. I used 5w30 Amsoil last yr. since I drive through the winter, but didn't bother the last change, just put 10w30 in it, and I've even used the 75w140 in the diff., 2 yrs. ago b/c that is what someone knowledgeable on the site used when I had them change out my fluids. I have another qt. of it, and I think I'll mix it with 75w90 next spring just to use it up. I don't drive hard enough to warrant the 140w; if I had 100k miles on the car, maybe.

Update: I adjusted the clutch and let the car sit for a few hours to become "cold" and the crunch was still there. Due to frustration, i put it back to how it originally was thinking, "it didnt work so what was the point?" lol. Is there any other possible causes for the crunch? or should i just try it again this weekend and see what happens?

This crunch is really frustrating and ruining my experience with the car. It's a love/hate relationship. I hate the car until it warms up, then i start loving it.
