Default second gear problem

ok, was driving my car tonight, driving quite hard and on 2 occasions it just didnt want to select second....

in the morning when i start my car, second is very tight!! which i believe is normal... but when she is warm i still cant go in smoothly.. even shifting slow... i guide it in from first to second and it crunches a slight bit...

doesnt do it from 3rd to 2nd. just from 1-2.

the new clutch is going in with FW, does anyone think it could possibly be a clutch problem not letting go fully... (clutch is effed)

or syncros are worn???

if they are, what is cost to pull gearbox out n put new bearings and syncros....

its just no matter what, it will not go into second smooth anymore.. never!!!

my car only has 55,000km's on the clock and its doing this....

anyone got any tips on what it might be..??

should i try change gearbox oil???

thanks

The first thing I would do is drain then add a can of STP or a Slick-50 type product in hopes and prayers that this would free up whatever is causing your problem. Most likely it won't though but it is cheap enough to a least give it a try.
I think it is more likely you have a worn or bent selector fork.

try changing the tranny fluid if it never has been done it may help. also have you ever swapped out the clutch fluid? If not this also seems to help some.it should be done fairly regularly. If 02 on original fluid it is well past due. AP1 1-2 syncros are somewhat soft though from what I read so hopefully the fluid swaps take care of it

If you've never done your clutch fluid... If you suck all the dirty fluid out up top and continue to dillute and suck out dillute and suck out until it's clear and then bleed? It will be a night and day difference.

The guy up there saying that bleeding the clutch helps "some". Some is the understatement of the year, made my car go from crunch crunch to smooth as butter.

Dirty clutch fluid and/or air
slop in clutch adjustment rod under dash
Dragging disc

Number one causes for 2nd gear grind. do the first two and you have a 75% chance of full cure.

2nd gear grinds become an internal transmission problem BECAUSE OF the above conditions. There is actually no defect in the 2nd gearset at all.
