Default Sensor / Gauge compatibility question...

Hi, All.

Please forgive my possible ignorance here, but I have a question about the compatibility between sensors and a particular vendor's gauges.

E.g. If I want to use a Defi gauge (or Defi "Display"), do I absolutely have to use whatever sensor(s) they recommend, or is there some sort of standard for this kind of thing, in which case I can use any sensor(s).

I would bet you have to use their sensors.

My money's with Modifry. My take on this is the Defi is a fully electronic integrated system. The sensors have a specific type of harness plug that connects up with the control module. It is this control module that tells the gauge "readout" what to display. Oh, and the gauges have a specific harness plug too.

I would recommend using the same sensors specified for each gauge. It will be too much trouble trying to figure out calibration points for each sensors involved. Also, if you are using defi gauges, they are designed to be easy to install where each sensor plug and control modules have predefined modular plugs. I tried looking for the plugs myself, but I could not find a match. Either hardwire the sensor wires or just go with the defi sensors to keep things simple.

They do make one on the Defi D-gage series, but its only a narrow band gauge/sensor. If you are going to use it for tuning, you need a wideband sensor/gauge. AEM, PLX and others makes the wideband units.
