shaking when hard braking

Does the shake come through the pedal or the wheel? If it comes from the pedal, Need to either turn or replace the rear rotors. If it comes through the wheel its the front that need replacing or turning.

Re-surface the rotors and get better pads for the track.

Wrong. It's caused by pad material deposited on a section of the rotor when it's really hot.

Juddering could be overheating disks, the cause the outer, pad contact area of the disk, to expand whilse the hub of the disk restrains this expansion, this can cause the disk to 'cone'.

Often the disks go back to normal when cooler back down.

Off topic, Carroll Smith was responsible for helping Calloway get 880 hp out of a twin turbo Chevy 350 in a Corvette. Calloway couldn't figure out how to keep the bloody thing from overheating.
