Default Shell Helix Motor Oil?

Its used on Ferraris and required under warranty on the Ferraris, apparently you can only get it at the Ferrari dealership for $14.95 a quart, while you fill up the pan with 10 quarts total.

A bit more expensive than Redline, or any other oil, and besides being sold exclusively (?) at Ferrari dealerships, what else makes it so special?

My guess would be the name and price.

Helix is available at ALL Shell service stations in Australia. As a matter of fact Helix is now the generic name for all Shell auto lubricants in this country.

I think the oil you are referring to in the US is probably Helix Ultra (SJ rated 5W-40). A product decription PDF is available at the following link

$14.95 A QUART? They've got see $$$ signs in their eyes when they see Ferrari owners coming. What can it possibly have in it that doubles/triples the cost of Mobil 1? Nanobots, that's it, must Nanobots. You know, the ones that scrub and clean and lubricate all the parts with their little brushes and oil cans.

2KTurkey is absolutely right ... While it's really nothing special, I've frequently use it to do engine flushes on my Accord. Other than which, I really doubt Ferrari uses that oil. If they really are, then they must be on dope or something. Or maybe, they have something special only for Ferrari use? Who knows, I'm not rich enough to find out from Ferrari myself.
