Default shift knob troubles

How do i get my shift knob numbers to be vertical? i twisted it down all the way and this is how it always ends up.
Am i missing a nut or something? Its been this way since i first got my car but i figured i could fix it myself.

There's a nut under the shift knob. Loosen it up, correct the shift knob and tighten the nut back up..

If there is no nut, that's your problem.
Btw, I can't see the pic

If you don't have a nut under the shift knob, then, yes, you're missing a nut.

Run the nut down all the way, run the knob down all the way, back the knob up til the shift pattern is straight, hold the knob in place, back the nut up against the knob with a wrench.

so does the nut actually go up inside the knob? or should it be on the stick? is it possible it fell through my shift boot?

edit: is anyone else having problems viewing the pic?

I had to copy/paste the URL into a new window to see it. It now appears in your post for me. It's the OEM knob with the leather wrap around the middle.
Yes, you need the nut and no, it can't drop down because it'll only go as far down as the threads and then stop. Just get another nut:
