Shifting problems, any ideas?
On my way home tonight, I went to shift into 6th gear, and couldn't find it. It was like there was no slot for the shifter to slide into. 1st to 5th were fine, and smooth as normal. After repeated tries, I was able to find 6th, but it felt like there was resistance to get it in gear. After that, there was resistance to get it back to 5th.
It didn't feel like a clutch issue, definately more of a shifter issue. Even after parking, and just moving through the gears with the engine off, 6th was difficult to get into.
Ideas or similarities to anything anyone else has experienced?
Gary

Thanks guys.
Interestingly, there is a thread in S2000 talk about vibration in the shifter.
docofmind wrote in that thread "An easy way to get premature wear on your synchros is to leave your hand on the shifter when not shifting." I do this all time - I guess I always want to be in the right gear, so I leave my hand on the stick.
Well, I stopped at the dealer to have them take a look-see today. I was just there on Monday for my 15K service, so they saw me right away.
Of course, it wasn't nearly as bad, and quite livable while I was there, their test drive, and mine as well after they drove. The tech's assessment was synchro wear. However, since it only happened during one session, he suggested that before he rips everything apart, that I see if I can get a pattern, more evidence, etc... so that the warranty work will be covered. He did think it was unusual that it was 6th and not the lower gears.

1st, "Hand on stick when not shifting" ----- BAD! Let it vibrate. That's normal for it to do that.
There have been threads here about difficulty getting into 5th or 6th. I recall that the tranny needed to be taken apart and the 5th or 6th gear shift piece replaced. It either got bent or broken or both.
A cheaper "trial and error" would be to check your tranny fluid and clutch fluids and maybe change them. If the condition continues then you might be looking at some major work. Also, ask them about the TSB concerning lubing up the base of the shift lever.
