Default Should I buy a new MAP sensor?

Hello,

When deccelerating, and am about to stop, and when I push my clutch in to shift out of gear, the car has a rough idle (as the revs fall). If I sit there stopped, and give it a slight rev, it has a rough idle for a second (dips below 1k rpms, and then comes up). Most have attributed this to a soon to be bad MAP sensor.

I think its just because its starting to get freaking hot in central TX, but its happening quite often, even after I've driven for a long period of time.

I am about to drive from Austin to Seattle, and going through Phoenix and Vegas, where it will be blistering. Should I buy a spare MAP sensor, in case my car dies out somewhere in the middle of the desert? I'll pack some tools with me on the road just in case. Or should I just put a new one in before I even attempt the drive? BTW- that tap the MAP sensor method hasnt worked.

Thanks!

I had the identical problem, eventually it will drop to 300 rpm and potentially stall. The third time it happened to me the "Check Engine" light came on. Took it to the dealership and the error code did identify the MAP sensor as defective. It was replaced under warranty (my car is a 2000 model and this was done a month ago.

Good Luck!
