Default simple mods - opinions on this setup?

Anybody out there have a setup similar to this?

HKS hipower exhaust system (around $1K)
AEM V2 CAI

I traded in an '02 Accord V6 for my S2K and was always interested in performance products, but I'm relatively new to actually exploring these options seriously. Would I need anything else with these mods to reduce stress on other stock engine parts/filters/brakes? I know the power gains aren't astronomical but I'm going for a more throaty, growling sound. Also (very important), the hyrdrolocking factor... I live in PA which can have some harsh winters and "precipitation" outbursts. Does the AEM intake come with a water blocking safeguard and would my mechanic be able to get a hold of something easily to protect the filter?

The gains are practically undetectable. If you are going for sound, do the intake first. The intake will be quiet when you want it quiet, and loud when you want it loud. The exhaust will be loud all the time.

I think that the new exhaust would look more attractive than the stock mufflers. How about fuel economy? Would the combination of these mods give me fuel economy efficient enough to cancel out the cost of the product? (I know it will eventually if you have the car long enough, but apporx. how many more miles to the gallon will it give me? Its an everyday driver and does a good mix of hwy. and city/blvd. type driving.) Ultimately, is it worth it for both mods?

if you want better fuel economy add a VAFC and a dyno tune to that list. leaning it out a bit will give you slightly better mpg.

You will probably never make back cost of the mods. Those mods cost about $1200 combined. People spend about $1000 a year on gas. Those mods might save you 1mpg but you'll probably be tempted to vtec more often just to hear the sweet sound.

I estimate it will take you 30 years to get back what you spent.

HKS dual is proven to give near 0 gains. Cold air intake gives a bit of torque at low RPM but from what I understand, restricts power at top end. Because we have NA, it's never a gain, but take a bit here, and add there. Depends on where you spend your time, low 3k-5k or at VTEC.

I don't think the AEM CAI would reduce top end power at all.

Trying to justify a performance mod by increased fuel economy is a worthless effort. The stock components are very well designed. Adding a V-AFC and tuning it would (in theory) improve fuel economy on the track a small amount, but not on the street. A V-AFC should only be operational at WOT, which really accounts for a very small amount of fuel consumption.

Thanks for the help fellas, much appreciated. I thought the fuel economy could be an added bonus to the ripping sound of the intake and exhaust...
