Default Simple Supercharger intake question, please help

hello, I think this question can be very easy for those that have some knowledge since I am lacking when it comes to the engine.

I am purchasing a comptech supercharger, not aftercooled. My question is about the intake, I am not really into the intake box. Can I just run the tube from blower to comptech filter and leave it there without the box. Oh and for an add, if this helps, I will be using a top secret style hood, i do not drive the car in the rain, but still lend some thoughts about this.

My second idea was making a different style box, or maybe having the tube coming from the blower going to a larger tube that mounts to the fender opening, or maybe some tube that aims towards the front corner to get the air, but will not get any water that may come through the hood (by some unknowing rainwhile i am already on the road)

I am just trying to find an alternative to the big black box....or basically what necessary reasons is there a box, so that when creating a new intake I should make sure it has these particular features. For example I figured the box was so that engine heated air doesnt get to the intake and/or it grabs more of the cooler air coming in the engine bay ...etc...

i would like to thank anyone that helps out
JP

You are on the right track as far as the purpose of the box but then you say you want a different setup that does the same thing as the comptech box. What about the box don't you like? Is it too big for your liking? Is there something else you want to do with the space? As long as you find another way to mount the tube and filter securely I don't foresee any real problems with not having the entire box but also can't think of any reason you wouldn't want it. It has a CF lid and should keep that area under the hood (which is not necessarily attractive) fairly clean looking.

I dont know exactly, there is something about that air box that i kind of wish there was a different design. Maybe it is too big in my opinion. Also when there is a box u do not hear the intake as much, so I was seeing if I could do it without the box so I could hear the intake more.

It may have sounded that i was contridicting myself, but in a way I do not want to lose performance by getting rid of the box so i want somthing that would equal performance or even be better. I dont really mind a box (i think) but there is just something with the comptech one that I do not like. Like I said perhaps it is too big and would prefer something smaller. If I could do something equalling the perfomance of the box with just a filter I would do that.

I mentioned characteristics that made it sound that I want different setup but still wanted a box, again true with a different style box, but also if there was a particular reason there was a box and not a free filter or whichever, I wanted to know so that I could figure a way to keep the important aspects of the box but use an alternative design, ie. different size/shape box, free filter, or maybe a filter that can have a tube from it, similar to some of the cold air setups but connecting to the blower rather than throttle body (custom piping u know)

thanks
JP
