Default Quick question on the intake

I have a 2000 s2000 completly sotck, and the other day just for kicks i removed the top of the factory intake box. The damn car screams louder that any other car i have heard, espically when it hits vtech. No to my question, could this damage my car? I dont think so because i see it as essentially a short ram intake, but please let me know what you guys think. Thanks
David

They say you lose power with the top off.

Air boxes are an anomaly. One thing that makes them work is the intakes pulses. As air enters the box during the intake of one piston's downward stroke, it rushes in and then when the intake valves close, there is a subsequent sudden halt of that air which actually creates a small postive pressure. This positive pressure is then gulped by the next piston. If the box is designed correctly, this postive pressure is used to maximum advantage and actually helps the engine "breathe". The engine takes a series of quick gulps of air and the air box tries to take advantage of the in-rushing air to provide a positive pressure for the next gulp.

With the top part removed, you will suck in hot air,and you will lose some power, but it will sound great.
If you want to keep the stock air box,get yourself a JR filter;+2 rwhp.

yeah i have the top off still and it spunds awesome, but i dont think i really have to worry about heat soak too much, Simply because it looks just like a short ram intake to me with our all the metal pipes to get heat soaked too. I dont reall feel like going to buy an intake (short ram) when this is almost the same or just as good. Ill save my money for the supercharger. Thank again for all you help guys

*cough*VTEC*cough*

IF you just want the sound then taking off the top of the box is the best thing to do since it would not be ideal to spend all that money just for louder engine noise.
