Thumbs down Smoke from Rear in VTEC?

I don't really drive my car hard at all but I've noticed that when driving in vtec there is a cloud of dark smoke in the rear coming from the exhaust. Current setup is hks hi power dual exhaust with berk test pipe and during normal drives all is normal except for the normal smell from the test pipe but in vtec the smoke is definately not white but a darkish black color smoke. I'm also having a small oil leak just right below the vtec solenoid. Please help

i kind of have the same thing but no after market exhaust yet. do you burn oil in vtec? i do, and i also run super rich up top so right when i shift i get some unburnt fuel poofing out lol. im hoping a catch can fixes the oil burning(hopefully) and the tune from my vafc2 can lean out up top so no more black puffs and more top end power. if i drive pretty hard theere will be black stuff on the back of the car, if i drive normal and good there is nothing at all what so ever.

Car does burn oil and I usually have to tip it off with about half a quart of oil after about roughly 1k miles. I'm just hoping that there is a solution for the black smoke when engaged in vtec and the vtec solenoid leaking oil

And about the oil leak right under the vtec solenoid, I've heard many have said to change the gasket/filter screen but how can you tell if it needs to be replaced and o-ring???

After doing a little research about the oil leak, I've come to reallize that the leak is coming from the bottom of the timing chain tensioner. I also recall having a very small oil leak in the vtec pressure switch. Is fixing the oil leaks as simple as replacing the o-rings or should there be other things I should be looking for...? TIA

How dark is the smoke? I'm going on a guess that you dont Vtec that often and that you like to shift early (3kish?)

If that is true, its probably just carbon build up blowing off. Our cars 00-01, has a tune thats slightly richer so it causes more carbon build up..

Yup that's me , and about the oil leak right under the timing chain tensioner I usually notice it happens when I drive it hard. Would it be necessary for me to buy a new one or are there ways to fix it

you can put an 02-03 ecu in and it has a better tune, i'm not sure about the chain tensioner it might be just a seal you can replace. and the oil burning issue you might try crank vents as well
