sounds like your hub is toast. replace it before you snap another axle.

The shaft, the hub and the wheel can all wobble once the bearing goes. Jacking up the wheel and trying to wiggle it around will answer this immediately. If the bearing is bad, it is going to show up as play between the hub and the bearing carrier and you'll be able to move the whole wheel around. With a good bearing you may feel some give in the bushings, but there will be no free play.
