Soft Top, Fuel pump, fuel gauge and reverse issues
My friend has a 2001 AP1 with approximately 60k that he is selling, but the car has a few issues and I would like to have an idea of the fixes before I buy it.
The fuel gauge does not work. The car has approximately 5 gallons in it and when you turn the key all the gauge goes up and then down they usually do, but then it does not read any fuel. Does any one has an idea what the issue could be? The car was only started on the weekends and my guess is that the mechanisim in the tank could be stuck. I checked all the fuses and they are good.
The fuel pump does not work. When you put the key you can hear the relay click but you can not hear the pump working. There is voltage going into the pump, so my guess is that the pump has failed or it is stuck for not being used frequently. I checked all the fuses and they are good
The soft top does not go down. Does the car need to be on for it to work? I have the e-brake up when I try lowering it. I also checked all the fuses in the engine bay and inside the car.
The car would have an issue with revers. It would be dificult to have it go in sometimes. I have heard that all it could require is to have the mechanisim disassembled, cleaned and then greased for it to work again. Is there any other reason why it should give issues?
I apologize if this is not the correct place to post.
I would appreciate your help, comments and suggestions.
I would really like to buy the car, but i do not want to buy it if it will be a lot of issues with it.
Thanks

sounds like theres a lot of electrical gremlins. I would be wary of purchasing it unless you're getting a great deal.
First off, what I would do is check ALL the relays. I noticed on my 01 that the relays die fast. All the relays were replaced once (from OEM to toyota relays) and then two of those relays also died, which I had to replace.
PM me if you want the fsm.

I will check the fuel pump wiring as you suggest to see if any of the grounds were affected.
The car did have a rat in the engine bay for a while, but everything looks fine.
Is the main ground for the pump inside or outisde the vehicle? From what I have seen in the manual it is inside.
Thanks
