Default Softop Only Works When E-Brake is Fully Cranked

I probably only raised any lowered my softop a half dozen times in the last 3 years as I run a hardtop most of the time. But recently when I have tried to lower and raise the roof it almost never works on the first attempt with the e-brake engaged. It seems like I have to lower the e-brake and then raise it up with more force and then the roof switch tends to work.

What I don't understand is that the e-brake dash light is on when the roof isn't working, so that tells me that the e-brake switch is working and engaged, I'm not sure why it benefits from having the e-brake lowered and raised with more force, before it decides to work. My e-brake is perfectly adjusted and within spec as listed in the service manual, I've checked and adjusted it earlier this season.

Any opinions on this would help, thanks for reading.

The ebrake light should come on with just one click of engaging the ebrake. How soon does yours come on? I'm guessing its an issue with the switch.

yeah the light comes on pretty early, maybe 2 clicks max. , to me that means the switch under the e-brake is properly engaged, so I don't know why re-engaging the e-brake would make any difference.

There's a split in the wire, one goes to the dash (e-brake light) and the other to the softtop control.
I donno where the split is, could be a double switch at the e-brake itself, could be at the dash, could be anywhere...
Wire color GRN/WHT (green / white)
Maybe the switch is dirty inside?
Remove the e-brake cover and see.

It's not that you're waiting for the windows to move down... and you're working the e-brake handle in that time.... right?

Thanks for the reply.
Oh if that is the case then maybe the switch requires more of a signal than the dash light. I will check the switch and see if it needs cleaning.

I am not touching the e-brake at all once the switch is activated. What happens is that I crank up the e-brake almost as high as it can go, maybe 1-2 clicks before max point, and then I move the softop switch and nothing happens. Then I lower the e-brake and crank it up with more force and then the switch seems to work.
