I have a sound that fits your description and I don't have an SC and it isn't from my turbo. I can hear it in the car but when I'm under the hood and revving I can't really hear it.

My conclusion is that it is the clutch throw-out bearing. When I'm in the car I can hear it because it is down by my leg. Under the bonnet there is too much other noise.

That is the most entertaining series of commercials I've seen in a while. Hopefully the vehicle line will be equally improved.
doubt it. they still use coilpacks. 5+ years of systematic failures and a vehicle-wide recall and they still don't get it.

fwiw i owned a MK4 dub. too many problems. gone and glad

+1

Would've thought TO bearing as well, except it was doing it before I replaced my clutch and TO 5k miles ago and didn't change / go away when I replaced.

It's gotta be intake, I'll try to stop worrying about it.

If you have a CAI, they usually cause a little bit of a turbo sound on all cars

Thank the LORD... apparently I'm the only one who can get the search to work...

Just started noticing this noise in the past couple weeks in my 03.
Also have the K&N FiPK so that MUST be the noise...
10 - 30 percent throttle....

I had the exact same problem on my race S and it was the clutch/throw out bearing.
