Just a quick look through the trunk by the spare revealed all that chewed up and peed on "felt" just like yours. I guess I'll have to remove the interior panel to be able to really do a thorough cleanup. I wish Honda would use a type of sound insulation that was less appealing to mice.
A rodent made a nest on top of my gas tank. This picture is when I replaced soft top, you won't have this good view unfortunately - see felt missing on top of gas tank area? Pull your spare and have a look around here. To clarify, there are 2 problems here: 1) straw nest on top of fuel pump under cover - not good but you probably wouldn't smell that. I also had a significant nest in this area next to the spare tire consisting of chewed felt and lots of stinky rodent pee...
Seems like this is a preferred target area. Finally.got the rear tray out. Now how do I get the smell out?
Oh man, that's awful. I've gotta check mine now. I would just clean it as best you can with your choice of cleaner, and then maybe spray some of that ozone stuff all around the area?
I'm suffering from this problem as well. Strongest smell of dead carcass seems to come from under the windshield washer bottle. Perhaps between the fender and the inner fender lining. I just hope it is a mouse and not a groundhog.
I got my S2k around 2013/2014... no rodent smell... but I did notice there was a funny/different human odor than my own. Not really a stinky BO; but def smelled like the previous owner I guess. And it stayed for years.
Then I quit cigs and started vaping in 2016 (I vape while driving). And, now that I think about it, the previous owner's smell is now totally completely gone.
Never thought about that, until reading this thread. Then I remembered when I first got the car, it smelled like the previous owner.
I believe the PG (propylene glycol) and/or VG (vegetable glycerin) in vape-juice removed the smell; because they are known to be germicides and humectants (and removing and/or diluting toxicity from certain products)... perhaps sterilizing the interior of the car and removing odor.
